Soundboard and acoustic structure

Together with its ribs and bridges, the soundboard forms the system that receives energy from the vibrating strings and turns it into the audible voice of the instrument. Cracks, loose joints or damage in this area require more than a visual check — they need to be assessed as part of the complete acoustic structure.

Depending on the condition, work may include stabilising and repairing the soundboard, ribs, bridges and their joints. The scope is chosen to restore structural integrity and the conditions for free resonance while preserving original material wherever it can reasonably be retained.
